Cornea Donors
The main aim of the eye bank is to collect corneas from dead. The corneas collected from dead bodies are being handed over to Badam Eye Bank at Kakinada for further process as we do not have specular microscope for processing of corneas.
The processed corneas are being sent by Badam Eye Bank to Kiran Eye Hospital at Kakinada for transplantation.
In this process to create awareness on eye collection we need to conduct village level meetings for the aged people and motivate social workers in village level convince the guardians of the diseased. Lot of funds are required to maintain an eye bank as 24 hours trained staff is required to collect cornea. There is huge demand for cornea as there is no proper awareness for eye donation.
